The hardenability of a metal alloy is its capability to be hardened by heat treatment. A specimen, called a Jominy, is machined with the dimensions in the diagram (left). The Jominy is then placed in the furnace at the austenitizing temperature specified in ASTM A255. After quenching, two flats 180º apart are milled, then hardness measurements are taken across the length of the specimen.
Tensile Testing can normalize, machine, austenitize, and/or test as required.
